grab takes the .sm files output by PhMgr, and spits out text for each field. Give it a list of files (e.g. a globbed list: *.sm) and it'll give you the text for each.

This program comes in two parts: grabreceived, for processing received messages, and grabsent, which does the same for sent messages.

They both compile from the same source file, which is available in (hopefully) platform-independent ANSI C.

The executables above are Mac OS X console applications (PowerPC), compiled with GCC 3.3.

Hope that helps some people — such as my brother! It's only been tested on X70 SMS files, but it may work on other phones (e.g. Nokia 7210, Panasonic X88). Use at your own risk (though it's non-destructive)!
