Gentoo and Autumn

It really says a lot about Gentoo that, firstly, it's nearly to the stage where I can use X, and secondly that I'm quite enjoying it. Of course, Portage doesn't seem to have any of the 5 or so X configuration tools available, so I'm doing it by hand.

It was also a beautifully dark night tonight, 9 degrees approaching midnight, so my breath frosted. Very nice.

Autumn is well and truly here.

At work

Posting this from work, which is slightly rebellious but satisfying! Heh.

I've spent a while this morning attempting to get the company's proxy server to work with the browser on each machine - no dice, so an arsey letter ("I'm not paid for this shit, get some other arsehole to do it") followed, and I'm now wasting time.

Meanwhile, the desktop at home is compiling Gnome and a few apps. Then I'll have to configure X, Gnome, GDM, and everything else. It's amazing what, say, Red Hat or SuSE do for you! Still, gives me something to do :)
