Bowie
Just got back from seeing Bowie at Wembley Arena. Fantastic — there aren't enough superlatives. His voice was better than it's been in years; I'd name high points but it was all great.Of particular mention: his duet with Gail Ann Dorsey (bassist) on Under Pressure — GAD did a fantastic job of Freddie Mercury's part — a better version than the original!; Sunday, which was vocally magnificent and polished off by a lovely guitar solo from Earl Slick (as was New Killer Star, incidentally — as it should have been on the album!); and Ziggy Stardust in the encore, which was played as stadium rock and set the crowd on fire.
My MiniDisc was low on battery, so I got the first few and last few tracks. I was waiting for The Motel, but it never came on despite Mike Garson's beautiful piano throughout. Spent a silly 25 quid on a nice t-shirt, and 12 on a program (well, you gotta!).
Well worth 50 nicker + travel per ticket. Next time, I'll take a proper camera and a fully-charged recorder! I'm hoping bootlegs will hit Teenage Wildlife soon, or even a DVD (it was good enough for one).
Can't wait for next year.
Now I just need to get some sleep.
Update: Forgot two things: Dandy Warhols were both entertaining and in good spirits, and Life on Mars was amazing!
