Marvellous electronic poetry

     And what
kind of bugs? Lorca's mystical crickets?
H.D.'s butterflies? Though I think they
must--if the mind does have an eye--be
cockroaches fat, brightly lit, and mightily
glowing. Flying through the mind shaft to
assault any mental indiscretion. Perhaps a
relative of Burroughs introduced this
term. (Stick that in your machine and
add it up!) What vision of mainframe!
What robust modems! What processor
speed!

CTachyon contributes: "C is heroic couplets. Java is blank verse. Perl is rhymed couplets. LISP is a haiku. Assembly is free verse. COBOL, of course, is a disaster."

From Slashdot.

Recovered, Semantics and Presentation

Well, data's back *touch wood* - of course, I have to manually categorise all of my contacts and appointments, and add voice dials again, but it's mostly back to normal.

Here's a question for you all: is it acceptable to embed in an ontology (meta)properties that can be used in its display? For instance, marking an Individual class, used as a proxy between a paper, a person, and their institution at the time of writing, as a 'transitive' class: the display will skip over it, using it as an aggregator.
Another example: suggesting depths of graph traversal, or where to put the information, or what have you.

Perhaps another meta-ontology which describes layout: this can then be used to mark-up the classes in the first ontology, controlling display?

Bother.

Thank you, Symbian, for ensuring the operability of your OS under stress. Of course, having studied development under Symbian, I should have realised that an even slightly poor implementation will cause problems. This just occurred:
  • I attempt to send 33 JPEGs, over Bluetooth, to my iBook.

  • This totals 3.3MB, so I get an error saying that I'm out of storage space. Would I like to make some more? OK.

  • The system then proceeds to lock up with write errors as I try vainly to close some programs.

  • Filesystem corrupt, forced reformat. Last backup: 1st November. So, I've lost some pictures, maybe an ebook or two, and some messages.

  • I anticipate joy trying to save my data that's synced with iSync.

What's annoying is that I would love to take this opportunity to clear out my P800's memory; do a few reinstalls. However, I want to keep my data, which is cleverly locked up in the Sony Ericsson backup utility. Twats. Restore it all, or nothing.

    Too many blogs

Another Semantic Web-oriented blog, with a slightly responsible attitude:

In Sanibel, whenever we had lunch by the pool, I'd look at the lot of us, our 300 bright minds, and think, "Imagine the good we could do, if we wanted." Such a collection of talent, and where will it lead? For myself, I won't be satisfied till real people benefit. That's my "meaning" of the Semantic Web. To me, all the rest's just smoke, just talk, just semantics.

    Big Fractal Tangle.
