Hilarious!
I've always said the thyroid was the cruellest of the glands.
This is from some completely surreal thing on ITV called "Director's Commentary":
1 of 7. First in a new spoof comedy series in which Rob Brydon plays his comedy character creation, the TV director Peter de Lane who has been making and directing TV programmes for as long as he can remember. Each week de Lane delves into his store of memories and offers an insight into some magical moments from his long career.

iTunes, VBR, not playing, and invalid durations
I have quite a few VBR MP3s not encoded in iTunes. It listed them all as having a duration of (filesize / lowest bitrate) - e.g. a 4 minute song at 35 minutes.
Now, this doesn't help.
So, using some utilites I set the appropriate tags in the file. Now, iTunes sees the right duration:
Seven Nation Army shows, correctly, as 3:51 (at least, I think it's correct... you'll see why).
The flaw: iTunes presumably still checks the file duration. It shows the cover art, sets the 'last played' date, and stops playing instantly. Re-importing doesn't work.
Anyone have a solution?

feed:
The observant will have seen a further two additions to my navigation bar: a
feed: link and a button:

These will set off a miraculous chain of events if you're using a decent browser and newsreader: it should subscribe you to the blog RSS feed. Otherwise, something will complain. That's fine though.
Lovely. Brutal hackery of protocols, but still lovely.

Minor updates
Well, I've updated and reinstated the
cast of characters page, which is over on the right. If I can be bothered, there may be pictures, more people, and links to follow.
I've also finally restored a (decent?) favicon; if you're using
NetNewsWire, you may have to restart it or remove/re-add the feed to get it to show up. In the browser it should come up straight away.
If you have to do that,
this link to the front page and
this link to the RSS feed may prove useful.

Snoblogging
Ah, the humour! It's just started snowing. While it is undeniably
beautiful [3.6MB], it has ground the entire country to a halt.
Please don't hammer my movie link.

Sex tips from cowboys
Remarkable.
What's your no-fail technique for oral sex?
Grab her by the pigtails or ears.
How would you react if a woman asked to penetrate you with a strap-on?
I'd grab my gun. If she was using it on her girlfriend, that would be a different story entirely. But on me? Well shit, man, that just ain't gonna fly. Do you do that?
Haven't yet.
Glad to hear it. Shit, you from Massachusetts?

Important days, a sick joke
Paraphrased from Slashdot a day or so ago (the webhost had a full drive, so I couldn't post then):
What's the difference between a Mercedes and a Yugo?
Princess Diana wouldn't be seen dead in a Yugo.
The 31st is going to be a big day for me: I get to find out if my hastily-written submission to a conference in New York has been accepted, and I'll finally get paid for two months of owed notetaking. Good ol' Payroll Office.
