Richard's Definitions, Vol. 1: d'oh
- d'oh
The feeling you get when you realise that the compilation CD you posted mere hours earlier was not, in fact, a CD-R, but a CD-RW.
The extraodinary nuances caused by the conjunction of both a wasted disc and an unplayable gift are particularly profound.
Bugger.

Bloody NetNewsWire
I spend each day in the office, and each evening at home. In each place I have a different IP address.
Every morning when I get into the office, and every evening when I get home, I get old feed items marked as new. Why, God, why?
At least, that's the only reason I can think of for the duplicates I get. When I'm subscribed to 78 feeds, some of which are aggregators, that's a lot of duplicates.
*sigh*
Still, I did just have a very nice lunch: banana cake and a pint of ale. Lovely. Preparing for meetings of import is relaxing.

em and en dashes revisited
Copying out a quotation in DEVONthink just now, I wanted to insert an em dash.
Hmm,
I thought,
how would this work on a Mac?
.
Sensibly enough,
Option-
- does an en dash (–);
Shift-
Option-
- inserts an em dash (—). Wonderful!
I'd enjoy commuting much more if
(a) I didn't keep getting stuck behind learner truck drivers on a 2-mile stretch of road where I cannot overtake, and
(b) if there were more parking spaces, with fewer closed off (e.g. this morning, 30 spaces in the car park I use were reserved for UCAS, so the campus was full by 9:15). It really puts a downer on my day that I have to be in first thing each morning to find somewhere to park — I can't ever come in at 10:30, because there just isn't anywhere to leave the car.
*sigh*
