Starsky & Hutch

An engaging evening at the cinema. Not the world's greatest film, but it didn't set out to be. Instead, a fun parade of comic scenes (including a sweet dig at New Coke), Seventies fashion, and that incredible car.

It's a good time for films at the moment: The Butterfly Effect looks interesting, as do Eternal Sunshine…, Gothika, and several others. Hmmm.

Grand Challenges, Quicksilver

I'm back from the Grand Challenges in Computer Science 2004 conference, held in Newcastle. Summary: quite interesting, but (particularly in contrast with the US version) nearly everyone missed the point, despite the best efforts of the organisers to keep things on track. Great dinners and free booze, though. I might write more later.

I've been using Quicksilver for a while now, and it's replaced Launchbar, despite the slight advantages Launchbar has. Now I see Launchbar 4 is in β — and it's got a few new features, like sub-searches, grouping, Web and in-file search, automatic indexing, viewing recent documents, and some of QS's features (such as mail to …). Competition!

The major difference, of course, is that Launchbar isn't free, even for existing customers (I paid for v.3). I think I'll be sticking with Quicksilver.
