Kill Bill, Japanese for Nerds

Lisa and I just watch Kill Bill, vol. 1; very enjoyable. Highly recommended, though it was indeed quite gory.

I'm looking forward to seeing vol. 2 in the cinema soon.

In other news, I enjoyed reading this article on Japanese, even if (as the comments pointed out for the first installment) it's not entirely accurate. It's a good illustration of how conventional language courses don't exploit some of our reasoning abilities to teach: as a logical person with a lot of experience with computer grammars, languages, and structures it's far easier for me to think in terms of recursion, stacks, functions and tables than the mess of explanations, tenses and so forth that make up language textbooks.

Now I'm on the look out for a computer scientist who can put together a rigorous and accurate set of lessons for Russian, German, and Japanese (three languages I'd quite like to learn)…
