Airport Express, Barbeque

Sidenote: I always want to spell that barbequeue. Hmmm.

So, Airport Express, eh? Great idea, good price — but why do they use an encrypted, proprietary lossless format for the stream? As stevenf rightly pointed out, iTunes is turning into something of a lock-in island; its AAC lock-in, the music store, proprietary lossless format, and so on. Integration is good, but I spook easily — if I start to feel like my investment is going to be at risk, I shy away. E.g., I don't use AAC, regardless of its potential quality improvement.

In my own life, today was the annual ChemSoc barbeque, where the chemistry finalists celebrate and commiserate their results. Although I am neither chemist nor finalist, I attended for my second time due to friends; it was sunny, warm, and generally enjoyable.
I also gutted our G3 in the server, to fit a second HDD. Not easy!
