I do some really stupid things sometimes

For instance, skipping to the “code” section (i.e. for my projects) in the PHP file that makes my main page, and happily deleting it (see below for why!). Then realising that I had actually deleted from the header bit down to the main bit, foolishly deleting (a) the header code for the rest of the page, and (b) the start of the main code for the rest of the page.

Thanks to Google's cache, and my memory, I could recover the content I lost, but it was still very annoying. If only I'd had backups of that file…

Still, that brings me to my revamped applications section. No longer titled code; now it's applications. No longer all in one file; now it has an index and separate pages for each app. No longer using a query string; now using URL rewriting.

Much better!

Please let me know if you find anything broken on the site. I really am a one, as my family say.

Hmmm… a little too much meta-blogging, I think. If I have a chance, I might post about my current experimentation with Cocoa.

Lonely chick

Today I ate my lunch in the Gardens, as I often do. From my bench, I spied a fledgling magpie, sitting in the flower bed.
He was hunkered down (it was a cool day), and occasionally chirped. He looked around.

When he moved, he had to stretch up on his legs to step over the plants. He seemed upset; perhaps he fell out of the nest, and he was not yet able to fly. His mother was nowhere to be seen. His chirps were answered by a bluetit's song, which confused him until the bluetit flew away.

I tried to encourage him to eat some bread, but he just looked at me and ignored it. If I had had worms, I would have offered them instead.

I watched as he slowly hopped away across the lawn, disappearing behind some bushes, cheeping plaintively all the while.

Lisa has just departed for Austria. She's not a regular reader, but regardless: Hi Lisa! See you soon!

Good call, Mr Hammersley

From Ben Hammersley's Dangerous Precedent:

UK readers: how much would you pay to see Paxman interview Bush? Me, I'd donate a kidney for a full hour. Fuckit: for two, he can have both.

I have a meeting at 12. That means I'm not going to do any work for 180 minutes. *sigh*
