More Tiger thoughts
I thought this was interesting, thinking back to Project Looking Glass:
To change the color or font for a sticky note, flip the note around — all Widgets controls are on the back to keep them out of sight until you need them.
I also noted that the
Metadata Indexing Engine at the heart of the system wide search can be extended to include metadata in arbitrary files. It indexes Photoshop files, so it might already read XMP (Adobe's RDF-based meta-data format).
Option A: write a plugin to allow the search framework to use RDF. Option B: get the Spotlight store as RDF.
Exciting!

Obligatory Tiger post
Ooh! Exciting things!
- Xcode:
- GCC 3.5
- Visual modelling
- Dead code stripping
- Fully 64-bit
- Auto vectorisation (AltiVec generation)
- Subversion support.
- Dashboard: single-handedly destroying Konfabulator, all of the iTunes controllers, mini calculators, etc.
- Integrated syncing, which explains the lack of iSync updates.
- Safari RSS reader — let's see how it competes against Pulp Fiction and NetNewsWire; I hope it doesn't kill them off.
- Spotlight — I don't like it. I'm happy with System Prefs as it is, and I think QuickSilver and my brain does the trick for search.
- 30-inch display. That'll do me.
Remarkable, but I don't know what to think about the direction. Adding Spotlight in the corner, sync to the OS, widgets, and so on, in addition to Expose, seems to clutter things unnecessarily. On the other hand, I don't know what I'd suggest as an alternative. Objectively, I see Address Book framework as a good route to take, but given that my research is in that area: keep well away, Apple!
