The War Against Silence
… ends in truce. Twelve years and 500 entries later, Glenn McDonald finishes his series of music reviews, introspection, and obsession.
Amazing and enriching. Well done, congratulations, and good luck.

Reading writeup, part 1
- Thursday
- Arrival, pitching of tent, drinking, and sleeping while it rained heavily. The long walk from the car (all the way from the car park to Camp M) was made all the more pleasant by the ankle-deep mud, making wellies a better choice. I now have brown work boots.
- Friday
- The start of the bands. First, however, I had to fix the tent in the rain. Awesome. A fair bit of drinking, then:
- Reel Big Fish (entertaining)
- DJ Format and Abdominal (skilled, featuring an amazing
paraphrase
of Vicious Battle Raps, entitled “Ferocious Combat Rhymes”) - Jurassic 5 (very polished indeed)
- Wildhearts (too loud for me, and they didn't play any tracks of theirs that I knew)
- The Hives (a little of, with amazing energy)
- Ash (improved towards the end; quite good actually!)
- The Offspring (who I remember very little of, but the last few songs were good)
- The Darkness (who put on a hell of a show, with at least 5 different guitars, fireworks, and getting the whole crowd to shout “fuck” and a word that rhymes with “punt”, accompanied by 20-foot illuminated letters)
A good start to the festival. More later!
