Bourne Supremacy, phones

This evening I went to the cinema with Lisa, Dolly, and Nat, after a very nice Nando's. The Bourne Supremacy was good; darker than the first, with more “dark side” and character. Recommended.

AvP is also due soon, and I noticed that it's been rated 15 (not the 12 that was rumoured). Much better — I want green bloodshed!

I've also been contacted by Orange about upgrades. Being canny, I stopped the spiel and said “give me a smartphone and 500 messages a month, and I'll think about it”. The woman said she'd talk to someone and call me back. 10 hours later, I'm still waiting. Tomorrow, I guess.

However, this leaves me with a difficult choice. Assuming they can do something for me, do I:
  • Go for the Z1010, with its standard Sony-Ericsson interface, lack of additional apps, bulk, and miserly 4MB internal memory, but iTunes integration, iSync, great Bluetooth, and video calling
  • Go for one of the current smartphones
  • Ask them to let me wait for the X700, P910, or 9300?
None of them are good solutions. The Z1010 would be cool but inadequate. The new Nokia 3G one (3650 descendant) might be cool, but no sign on Orange. The P910 would be a mostly pointless upgrade from a P800, and the 9300 is too big, with no camera, but the X700 worries me — small battery, yet-another-memory-card-format, and no touchscreen.

I suppose I should wait and see. There's a good side to each; features, familiarity, or size.

They'll probably just laugh at me, anyway. At which point I just get a new contract as I had planned!

PS: I had my transfer interview today. Uneventful, so I'm now officially a second-year PhD student!
