Neverwhere
I finally — yes, I know it was published in 1996! — got round to reading Neverwhere, by Neil Gaiman. Distinctively Gaiman in character; despite its dark-fairytale ending it still has that don't-want-it-to-end pull that defines a good book. Velvety, dark, and intriguing. Good stuff, and it encourages the kind of thought that makes people nurture their childhood dreams. Now I have to find the TV version somewhere. I have vague memories of Croup and Vandemar messing around with knives, but little else. This is probably the first time that I've ever seen some of a TV/movie version, but not remembered any of the characterisation, leaving me to form my own image of each of the players. Marvellous.
