An observation

Television programmes (soaps in particular) are desperately unrealistic. Not because of the insane numbers of deaths (I'm looking at you, Midsomer Murders), but for one reason:

You never see duplicate names.

Lisa works with three girls, each named Jess. My supervisor and another researcher here are both “M. Evans” (no relation), which makes the post room a frustration. I have known, simultaneously, several people named Tim, David, Chris, and countless other common (and not so common!) names. By contrast, it's a Law of Nature that this does not occur on television. The reason is obvious, of course, but I'd love to see the scripts:

“No, not Mike at work, Mike at the chip shop… well anyway, he was talking to Big Chris, but my Frank, not the one with the comb-over, the one with the flash car…”

I can't believe I just wrote a blog post on this. And looked up a link for Midsomer Murders, which I don't even watch. It must be Christmas getting to me.
