Inevitable phone trials and tribulations

After the last problem (corrup T9 dictionary) I just had a memory card corruption — I couldn't open a new SMS, the file explorer couldn't read the Mail folder on the SD card, and some of my images were corrupt.

Cons: I also can't find a way to extract the backup DB, so that's my SMSes gone — drat. I probably lost a picture or two, too, when I had to reformat, and there's the inconvenience of having to reinstall apps. I'm now storing my messages on the phone memory.

Pro: I was using the Nokia PC Suite to move stuff back across, so at least I was on the Windows PC with a bit of free time. This meant I could finally figure out how to move my data from Handy Safe on the P800 to the 6630: move c:\system\apps\Safe\Safe.ind and Safe.dat on the P800 to c: on the 6630. You might have to create a new DB with the same password first, then overwrite.

I now feel like I can't trust the phone — who knows when it'll lose my apps, or have a corrupt dictionary, or trash my pictures? I've had it fail to start apps before for no reason; sometimes a reset helps, sometimes not.

*sigh*

I never felt that I had these issues with UIQ. Oh well. Nothing to be done now, eh?

World's shortest fairy tale

Man asks woman to marry him.

Woman says “no”.

Man lives happily ever after.

I had a good upbringing

I really ought to start a Harry Hutton fan club:

A girl just phoned and told me that Ben Affleck has a beautiful chin. I'd never really given it much thought but, do you know, I think she's onto something. Its a masterpiece, a real Aston Martin of a chin. And you have to admire the functional way it separates his teeth from his neck.

I wouldn't normally discuss Ben Affleck or chins, but she raised the subject. I had a good upbringing so I couldn't just say, "Shut it, you whore."

I'd been looking for this

… probably for RDFIG or something. Anyway, here it is: Bounded Descriptions, including CBDs.

This is my outboard brain!
