Paintball, motorways, and hangovers
Yesterday Tim and I joined our students for an awesome afternoon of paintball. I won't bother describing it; suffice to say that much fun shooting was enjoyed at a low bruise cost. This was followed by a drunken evening in Reading town and the Student's Union; it felt rather surreal being out drinking and dancing with my students, but in reality the age gap is only 1–4 years, so it's easy to forget that there's (supposed to be?) a divide there. I might put some photos up if I can find any that came out well enough!Fortunately (despite a near total lack of sleep, heavy dehydration, and copious drinks) I wasn't hungover at all (and didn't actually get that drunk — must have been the dancing!), so when I supervised a mini lab this afternoon I was bouncing around and smiling. Some of the same students that had been out with me a mere 12 hours before were wincing and feeling like shit. It was absolutely hilarious. We have to do it again. Thanks go to Tim for putting me up; you're a star.
Not hilarious was the M4 this afternoon. There were two accidents; one a rear-end shunt in the right lane, and one a heavy collision that left one car facing the wrong way in the right lane and the other on the hard shoulder. Fortunately I came along a few minutes later — I've been very lucky to have escaped several accidents in the past 4 years. Fortunately nobody seemed to have been hurt.
