C++, Downfall
Stroustrup:C++ is bigger than ever. Isn't that the problem? (Though I will admit that it has a role — I'd just prefer to use almost anything else.)
Anthony, Susie and I just saw Downfall (also titled Der Untergang), a tremendously powerful film about the final days of the Third Reich. The acting was convincing (nay, captivating!), the pacing good, and it was actually refreshing for the whole film to be in German. It was not just worthy, but rewarding.
If the material weren't so dark, it would also be a superb showcase for the astonishingly beautiful Alexandra Maria Lara, the actress who plays Traudl Junge, the Nazi secretary whose memoirs provided the meat of the story. Her acting is the equal of her looks.
