Cracking on

I'm really getting going on the prep for my internship: sorting out chores at home, looking seriously at housing, and even exploring the problem I'm heading over there to work on. It's surprisingly soon! How time flies.

(Hello to people Googling me, by the way!)

Looking at Danny Ayers' blog just now, it occurred to me that his photo (and associated biographical link) is quite a useful part of the page (in contrast to my completely useless ‘logo’) — indeed, the whole sidebar just works. I used to have a photo on my front page, but it didn't keep up with my changing haircut… perhaps I should bring it back1?

(“Maybe in silhouette?” I hear you all cry!)2

The reason this occurs to me, of course, is because potential roommates often want to lay eyes on you before they share their home with you — and I look nothing like these guys. Well, he's got my nose, anyway.

1 Actually, the sidebar and the front page, as well as my Semantic Web page, need a bit of an update. There aren't enough hours in the day! *sigh*

2 Hurrah for parentheticals!

Something to remember indeed

Ben Hammersley quite rightly points out the US-centric bias in reporting of legal news:

We would all, both within and without the US, do well to remember this. Declaring filesharing illegal across the net because it's illegal in the US is like declaring the web broken because it's censored in China.

Of course, I'm not quite as immune to US legislation as I'd like to be (I will, after all, be spending three months there!), and everyone in the UK has their own problems to deal with.

Hmm, I wonder what the job market is like in New Zealand….
