The Descent
Anthony, Chris, and I just got back from seeing
The Descent, the latest people-trapped-in-a-dark-cave horror film. We enjoyed it (though we laughed throughout, particularly at the chap sitting at the back of the theatre who squeaked early on), but it was reminiscent of a tampon advert — a group of girls bitching at each other, wading through pools of blood, doing really active things on camera, and generally getting a bit crabby. Oh, and attacking random males with sharp things.
The illusion would have been complete had they worn tight white trousers in inappropriate situations.

London
Five blog posts in one, this!
- London
- London's been in my thoughts a bit recently; coming back from Iceland being the most personal interaction, but the bombs the more important. cityofsound gives the best summary, and quotes Ken Livingstone's moving speech. As Rob Annable put it, “it deserves repeating”. Thanks to those who got in touch.
- Iceland
- I haven't updated here for a little while. I'm back from Iceland; yes, I had a wonderful time, thank you. If you want pictures, I shall provide. I can't pick a particular one to go here, so they can sit in iPhoto for now.
- Academia
- My ISWC paper didn't make the cut — that's academia for you — but I'm exploring alternatives. Or, at least, I would be if Mike would answer his emails!
- California
- I leave for California on Saturday, and I have a packed week of things to do and farewells to say. I expect I'll forget a load of stuff, but we'll see. I'm looking forward to it!
- Additional links of the day
- The Ford RS200, a classic rally car with a 2.1 sec 0-60 time; the Maltron keyboard, designed to cure RSI; cute bunnies with asthma.
