Las Vegas

I'm in Sahara in Las Vegas. I'm quite tired, and I'm about to go out for dinner. I spent most of the afternoon talking on the phone (actually, two at once at times!), and walking around casinos looking for bars. Marvellous!

Hopefully I can steal Sam's photographs at some point… it would be nice to have a record. The architecture of this place is amazing, and the amount of effort put into extracting money from people is noteworthy, but the people themselves disturb me: cold, dead, expressionless eyes watching coins clatter into machines. It's the human equivalent to the way too much office air conditioning makes you feel. Perhaps a place like this needs to exist, and there might be good in it, but it still makes me a little nauseous.

Oh, and I paid $12 for this connectivity. What a scam!

Exhausted

My last day at work proceeded largely without event, which was good. I had an enormous sushi lunch with Liz, which I enjoyed, and my “leaving” interview with Michelle.

Liz thoughtfully made me dinner — chicken stir-fry — then we had ice cream and some more wine when Amy came home. They have a new kitten, Zoe, who is gorgeous. I might steal her.

Thanks to Range, Corby, Tingting, Schrader, and Sam for showing out for me; a special mention also to Elaina, who showed up at Mervyn's for 40 minutes before her football game (I hope your knee gets better soon, lass, but well done!), and Liz for driving me and putting up with my guitar.

I have 4 or 5 hours until I have to be up for Vegas. Goodnight, all — I'll see you soon.
