Josh Tauberer's introduction to RDF

I haven't seen this before (well, it was released this month), but it's definitely worth blogging: Joshua Tauberer's “What is RDF” article.

So far I've shown how RDF can be used to describe the relationships between entities in the world. RDF can be used at a higher level, too, to describe RDF predicates and classes of resources. Ontologies, schemas, and vocabularies, which all mean roughly the same thing, are RDF information about… other RDF information.

This is probably the best introduction I've seen.

The Aspidistra Flies

A song that never fails to please me, and I've never posted some lyrics! By Stars, of course. I'd quote the whole thing, but that'd take up a bit too much space…

All the umbrellas in London
Couldn't hide my love for you
All the rain on Thameside
Couldn't stop it shining through

I dreamt of you last night
Lying next to me in blue
All the umbrellas in London
Couldn't hide my love for you

You'll whisper sweet lies to me
And one of them will be true
All the umbrellas in London
Couldn't hide my love for you

The gloom of the city at evening is still
You whisper come to me
And I always will
Always will
Always will.

On creativity

Eugene Wallingford is my new favourite blogger.

What feels creative is solving something we don't yet understand — creativity lies in exploring what do not understand, yet.

One thing seems certain: Change begets creativity. Robert Hass spoke of the constant and the variable, and how — while both are essential to creativity — it is change and difficulty that are usually the proximate causes of the creative act. That's why cross-pollination of teams (e.g., pair programmers) works, and why we should switch tools and environments every so often, to jog the mind to open itself to creating something new.
