Evolution and the United States

Tobin pointed me to this graph at the National Geographic, which is quite terrifying. The United States is second to last in acceptance of evolution as a theory, beating only Turkey. For comparison, Iceland and Denmark top 80% for acceptance. The US manages only 40%, with 40% definitively answering “no”.

To put this another way: 40% of Americans believe in a theory of creation along the lines of “God made the earth in seven days”. Fortunately, I live around people on the left-hand side of that chart!
