Elaina:

So you don't keep them as pets because they're so cute!

Safe Sleep

My Macbook Pro takes an annoying 10–20 seconds to go to sleep when I shut the lid. This is a dangerous time: in those seconds it's writing the contents of RAM to disk, and is very vulnerable to drive damage. It's also the time when I want to put my machine in my bag and go. (The long time is due to the 2GB of RAM, I expect.)

I've never actually needed Safe Sleep. The idea is that by writing the contents of RAM to disk, you're spared data loss when your battery dies — but I've never had my battery run dry. The sleep wait kills me, but I don't want to turn Safe Sleep off, because I know that one day I'll need it.

Ah, dilemmas.
