Yes, I'm back in Palo Alto. The rest of the flight was uneventful; I read 180 pages of Neil Gaiman's Stardust, which is shaping up to be very good, and took some pictures of beautiful clouds.For the record: SFO airport staff are not all competent. Imagine a planeful of passengers milling around beside a locked door, behind which was our baggage carousel, slowly rotating with our luggage on it. For 15 minutes.
