My desk
Recently I came into possession of two delightful gadgets: an Ergotron dual desk mount (“a robot arm for your display”) and a Kinesis Advantage keyboard. The arms mount on the edge of your desk, providing fully-positionable support for (in this case) a display (23" Apple Cinema HD display) and a laptop (my MacBook Pro). Not only can you move and rotate these (hence my vertical screen), but you also end up with an uncluttered desk (no more balancing a screen on top of reams of paper, no laptop stand). I've lost count of how many times people have stopped to ask where I got them. The keyboard I bought to prevent the recurrence of my RSI, emboldened by the advice of Bill Clementson. I'm nearly fluent with it now; the only keys with which I have a problem are v/c, "/:, (/), and the awkwardness of hitting arrow keys and using the thing one-handed. On the whole it's actually better for typing real words.
Because I haven't done a desk shot for some time, there's one in this post. Walking, L->R:
- Phones number 1 (out of shot), 2 and 3
- Amazing Thermos cup
- Ink, fountain pen
- Apple Mighty Mouse (thanks, Tingting!) — not a good arrangement with the keyboard, but I'm working on that
- Keyboard
- Cinema Display, hiding two external drives
- MacBook Pro (tempted by the new ones, but this'll do for now!)
