Compression

bzip2 is amazing. On Friday I watched 430,000 triples — 45MB in RDF/XML, 62MB in ntriples — compress into an 860KB bz2 file.

Granted, the data was very regular, but that's still 2 bytes per triple. Good job, bzip2! That's much more portable!

C

A nice piece on C, quoting a nice paper on C by P.J. Moylan. My favourite quote:

Much of the power of C comes from having a powerful preprocessor. The preprocessor is called a programmer.
