Back on Linux

For a project I might soon be undertaking, I'm venturing back into the world of Linux for the first time in years. (I've been spending 99% of my time in Mac OS X and Solaris, of course, so it's not like I'm crying out for the Start menu!)

It's a little simpler this time around, though — I just downloaded VMWare Player and a CentOS machine image (granted, this took about 6 hours to download!), unzipped, and now I'm fetching software updates. No drivers to fiddle with, no CDs to burn, no install process, no problems with networking (Windows is taking care of that).

I've got a full-screen Gnome desktop, I don't perceive any slowdown, and aside from some (likely Comcast-related) DNS problems, I'm trucking along fine.

I could get used to this!
