Dratted luck: MacBook Pro

My new machine just got vertical backlight stripes. Now to try to get them to go away….

Update: sleeping then waking fixes the problem. I deliberately didn't sleep by closing the lid, which rules out cable pinch.

Failing

My sidebar says I'm “trying to buy less stuff”. I'd say I failed: in the past week or so I've taken delivery of a new MacBook Pro, a 30" display, and a new switch, UPS, and drives for the NAS that's on its way.

Oops.

Memory usage in Leopard

Under Tiger, Mail.app's RSIZE usually hovered around the 430MB mark. Check out top's output on Leopard:
PID COMMAND %CPU TIME #TH #PRTS #MREGS RPRVT RSHRD RSIZE VSIZE
329 Mail 0.1% 35:26.51 12 319 1622 1131M 47M 1181M 1607M
306 OmniWeb 0.0% 16:37.10 25 329 2743 398M 220M 625M 1065M
Wow! A quick restart of Mail drops this number to just 62MB. I suspect there is a resource leak somewhere… check out RPRVT: over a gig allocated to the Mail process alone.
