Chair ahoy

I just ordered a new Håg Capisco seat. With “all the fixins” — headrest, for when I lean back; ‘StepUp’ for more footrest choices, and “Hue Night” fabric — this sets me back about $900.

$900! I hear you cry. I spend much of my day in an office chair. You can easily spend more than that on an armchair for your living room that sees one tenth the use: even in bargain-price Ikea, where the ARILD chair is $599 and STOCKHOLM is $649.

I don't relish the idea of spending that much on a chair, but I hope that the Capisco is worth it.

For a start, it will prevent me slouching: the saddle and the half-standing posture should take care of that. The pseudo-armrests will give me somewhere to perch my elbows when I lean back, but won't get in the way. The various foot positions (floor, mini-feet above the casters, and StepUp) will keep my legs moving and again help with slouching.

The only problem is that, if I find it helps, I'll want to buy one for the office, or stop going to work. Corporate policy specifies Steelcase, so I guess I'll opt for the latter!

For the record, I ordered from ErgoDepot. They overnighted me fabric samples for free (important when you plan to use a chair for 10 years), responding to my request on Labor Day. They have a no-hassle returns policy (I am, after all, buying this chair without sitting in it), and a price-match guarantee (though they were the cheapest anyway). So far I'm impressed….
