There's a new proposal out on the web for doing updates on RDF: SPARQL Update. It extends SPARQL with some new verbs (and allows multiple clauses in a single request) so you can load, insert, replace, delete, and so on.

I gave it a (very) quick read, and I couldn't see much wrong with it; in fact, parts of it mirror some notebook sketches I've done of the same functionality (after all, how many SPARQLy ways are there to do INSERT?). I expect I'll have fun implementing it….

My one suggestion right now: how about the nickname “SPARQUP” instead of SPARUL?
